A Day of Inspiration: Mogo Media Academy’s Free Introduction to Animation Workshop
On August 10th, 2024, creativity came alive at Mogo Media Academy as we opened our doors to over 130 aspiring animators for a free Introduction to Animation workshop. This special event was not just a class—it was an experience, a spark of inspiration that had the power to shape futures and ignite dreams.
The workshop was led by none other than renowned Indian animator Nikhil Chandra, a passionate artist whose journey into animation was fueled by his love for cartoons and movies. Inspired by the magic of Shrek, Nikhil pursued a career in animation, eventually working on global projects like King Julien, Boss Baby, Lego Jurassic Park PSA, Lego Hidden, and Lego Minions. Now, as a freelance animator and storyteller, he brings his vast experience to inspire the next generation.
A Glimpse Into the World of Animation
From the moment Nikhil took the stage, there was an energy in the air—a mix of curiosity, excitement, and ambition. He shared his journey, from being mesmerized by animation to working on some of the world’s most loved animated projects. His stories weren’t just about success; they were about passion, perseverance, and the courage to dream big.
As he broke down the fundamentals of animation, students were introduced to the art of storytelling through movement, the importance of character expression, and the power of bringing ideas to life through animation. With hands-on demonstrations and real industry insights, attendees were able to see, feel, and experience what it truly means to be an animator.
More Than Just a Workshop—A Moment of Realization
For many, this workshop was more than just a lesson in animation—it was a moment of realization. A realization that a career in animation is possible, achievable, and within their reach. The room was filled with students who had once thought of animation as just a dream, but by the end of the session, they saw it as a future they could truly pursue.
Nikhil’s words resonated deeply:
"Animation is not just about making characters move; it's about bringing emotions to life, telling stories, and making the audience believe in a world that doesn’t exist."
A Step Toward a Brighter Future
As the session came to an end, there was a sense of newfound purpose among the attendees. Many stayed back to ask questions, seek guidance, and explore how they, too, could become part of this magical industry.
At Mogo Media Academy, we believe that education should be accessible, creativity should be nurtured, and dreams should be encouraged. This free workshop was just one step in our journey to empower Sri Lanka’s future animators and show them that their passion can turn into a profession.
For those who attended, this was just the beginning. For those who missed it—this is your sign to take the leap. The world of animation is waiting for you, and Mogo Media Academy is here to guide you on your journey.
Dream it. Create it. Animate it. Your future starts here.
